Resumen:

Nowadays one of the most interesting applications of mobile communications is the development of intelligent transportation systems. This paper describes the use of wireless communications in railway systems to increase the efficiency, security and reliability and to reduce operation and maintenance cost. The requirements to GSM-R, Tetra and WLAN communications are analyzed considering their application to the signaling and information systems used in the high speed trains and advanced metropolitan railway. These communications systems actually are use in networks for interoperability of high speed trains and the use of WLAN technology in metropolitan railways to reduce the train interval and to increase trains efficiency and reliability.
