Resumen:

Nowadays, there is a big concern about securityissues for convoys in hostile environments during war-periodsor in peacetime surveillance missions. There are several worksfor automotive applications working in W-band and the goal isto go beyond and improve its feature to work as surveillanceradar. In this paper, the design of a radar sensor at 77 GHz ispresented. It is based on hybrid technology: microstrip, waveguide and MMIC. In particular, the design focuses on theRF subsystem: transmitter and receiver modules. The MMICsemployed are Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS), from UMSCompany. The substrate employed is CuClad, with a 2.17dielectric constant and 0.127 mm thick. It has been designed tobe lightweight, small and powerful enough to accomplishsurveillance tasks in hostile environments, especially on boardUnmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Humvees.
