In this paper, a software tool for planningand dimensioning WiMAX Networks based on ageographic information system is presented. Thedeployment process of a communication system based onthis technology in rural areas requires the use of a digitalGIS database, in order to achieve trustworthy results.This geographic information is obtained from the datasupplied by NASA SRTM project. The tool will allow toobtain accurate maps and numerical results associated toSNR, coverage, capacity, visibility, better server andother parameters related to radiopropagation.
